- All entries and awards in this department shall be subject to the General
Rules and Regulations as published in the front of this catalog.
- Exhibitors must be bonafide members of a County 4-H club or FFA Chapter.
Exhibitors must have continuously, personally, fed, and cared for their animals
under the
direct supervision of a CEA or an AST.
To be eligible, boys or girls must be enrolled in, and attending, public,
private,
or home school elementary or secondary schools in Texas; and are eligible
to participate in the 2010-2011 year if they are 8 (and in the third grade)
or 9 years of age by August 31, 2010 and have not reached the 19th birthday
on or before August 31, 2010.
All entries must be made by the CEAs or ASTs with one check for the entry
fees.
Entries will not be accepted from individual junior exhibitors.
- Entries – 2 steers will be allowed. All steers must have a Texas Validation Ear Tag. Only 4H and FFA Club members from the following counties are eligible to show: Bailey, Borden, Briscoe, Castro, Cochran, Crosby, Dawson, Dickens, Floyd, Gaines, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Kent, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Mitchell, Motley, Parmer, Scurry, Swisher, Terry, and Yoakum, Texas.
- Entry fee: $30.00 per steer. Entry fees are non-refundable.
- DEADLINE TO ENTER is Friday, August 13th, 2010. Entry forms must be postmarked
by that date. Entries received after deadline, between August 14th and Labor
Day must pay a late fee of $15.00 per entry. No entries will be accepted after
Labor Day.
An entry does not guarantee stall space in the barns.
- Each exhibitor will be issued 2 season passes but must purchase a "Livestock Pass Gate" (located on Ave A)
parking pass for $15.00. Complimentary parking passes will not
be issued. The
$15.00 pass fee must be included with entry fees at the time entry is made
and all passes
and parking passes will be mailed to the CEA or AST prior to the show.
- Arrival and Release TImes: Tack and equipment only may be brought in the barns on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, beginning at 1PM until 6PM. Steer arrival is on Thursday, September 30, 2010 beginning at 8AM until 6PM. Immediately after unloading, each trailer
must be
moved off the fairgrounds to an outside parking lot as instructed by your
Show
Superintendents.
Trailers left on the inside parking lot or around the barns will be towed
by a commercial
wrecker service and held for charges. Steers will be released Saturday, October 2, 2010 after their class has been judged.
- Each exhibitor must show his ir her own steer, In case of emergency, the Superintendent may approve a qualified Junior to show the steer.
- Grooming chutes will not be allowed on fairgrounds.
- Fitting Rule: Blow and show. No paint, powder, or adhesive allowed. Cattle will be inspected while entering the show ring. Those in violation will be disqualified.
- Wood Shavings are used in the beef cattle barn and no straw is allowed. Exhibitors may bring fiber or wood shavings for additional bedding.
- Steers may not be tied out before 6PM. Tie out space is limited and exhibitors are requested to keep their steers in the barn at night.
- Divisions: There will be five Breed Divisions with the following classes in each Division:
American Breeds and Crosses-this division will be comprised of steers that are combinations of purebred or crossbred Brahman, Brahman based and/or any other American breeds that exhibit the typical physical characteristics of American Breed cattle.
Class 01 Class 02
Hereford/Polled Hereford Breeds- Steers that are purebred Hereford or Polled Hereford
Class 01 Class 02
British Breeds-Steers that are purebred Angus, Red Angus, and Shorthorn
Class 01 Class 02
Non-Black Crossbred and Other Breeds-This division will be comprised of non-black steers. Only steers with no black color will be allowed in this division.
Class 01 Class 02
Crossbred and Other Breeds-All steers that are black or black with other color pattern.
Class 01 Class 02 Class 03
If entries justify the addition, Superintendents may add one more class to each division. Classes will be broken at the discretion of the superintendents.
- Weigh/Classify: Turn in your own weights. Weight cards will be turned in at classifying that will begin at 10AM on Friday, October 1, 2010. On the day of weighing and classifying, exhibitors will be called by breed to the scales. Exhibitors will declare the breed of the steer by presenting the animal at the designated time for that breed. Any steer classified out of that breed division will not be allowed to declare an alternate breed and will be re-classified at the discretion of the 3-man classifying system. The decision of the classified in order: ABC Hereford/Polled Hereford, British, Non-Black. All weight cards must be turned in at classification by 12 Noon, Friday, October 1, 2010.
** One set of portable sclaes allowed per county 4H group or FFA chapter. Official scales will be provided.
- Top (2) placing steers (or others) will be re-weighed at the Superintendent's discretion with 5% weigh-back allowed.
- Champions: A Breed Champion and Reserve Breed Champion will be selected from the First and Second place steers in each of the classes in the five Breed Divisions. The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be selected from these Breed Champions.
- Judging: Judging will begin at 11AM on Saturday, October 2, 2010, if the heifer show is over, if not, we will begin the Steer Show after the conclusion of the heifer show but in no case will the steer show begin prior to 11AM. Steers will be judged in the order that classes are listed in the Premium Book.
- Premium checks will be mailed after the fair is over.
PREMIUMS
Premium money will be paid and ribbons given in each class as follows: Belt Buckles will be awarded to all Breed and Reserve Breed Champions in the Steer Show.

SPECIAL RULES

the
records of their respective breed association in the name of the exhibitor
on or before
September 1, 2010. Registration papers will be checked by Show Superintendents
on
Friday 9/28 between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
- New Rule: The Junior Beef Heifer Show will be a blow and show. No adhesive glue or wax like substance will be allowed. Cattle will be inspected prior to entering the show ring. Any animal found to be in violation of the rules will be disqualified and not allowed to show. The decision of the inspecting official is final and not subject to protest.
- Entry fee: $30.00 per heifer. Entry fees are non-refundable.

by a commercial
wrecker service and held for charges.
- Judging will begin at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2 in the Livestock
Pavilion, and heifers will be released after their class has been judged.
- Breed classes will be divided by registration birth date. Heifers born
before
September 1, 2008 are ineligible to show.
- Grooming chutes will not be allowed on fairgrounds.
- Premium checks will be mailed after the fair is over.
- Interpretations of show rules will be made by the Show Superintendent
and
his decision and those of the Show Judge will be final.

NEW RULE: THERE WILL BE NO CROSSBRED - NON-PAPERED DIVISION; To be elgible for the show, all heifers must be papered.
Breed Divisions and Classes — All Breed Classes are possible, but the following
rules
must apply and will not be changed under any circumstances. Must have seven
entries
to qualify for a single Breed Class.
BRITISH BREEDS:

Rules:
(1) 7 or more heifers of any single breed will
validify a breed with 2 age classes.
(2) 15 or more heifers of any single breed will
validify a breed with 3 age classes.
(3) less than 7 heifers of any single breed listed
above will be entered into British Breeds.
If British Division is declared by the
superintendent, then 10 entries will validify
2 age classes. 15 or more will validify 3 age classes.
AMERICAN BREEDS:

Breeds. If American Division is declared by

declared by the superintendent, then 7
entries will validify 2 age classes, 12 or more
will validify 3 age classes.
Same rules as #1 and #2 above (6) Any member wishing to participate in AOB Heifer Division must provide a TJLA, AOB certificate of Registry from the TJLA office. The certificate shall stipulate the animal's birth date and parentage. TJLA, AOB Certificate of Registry applications may be secured and purchased for $25.00 from the TJLA office in Crockett, TX or may be downloaded at www.theshowbox.com. Should a member wish to have a certificate processed within 10 business days, he or she will be charged a rush fee of $20.00 per certificate from the TJLA office. No AOB heifer will be allowed to show at the Panhandle-South Plains Fair without a certificate of registry.

Mega Pass is Back
The Mega Pass will be $60 again this year. Sales begin Monday, August 3rd at 3PM! They will be available for purchase at the Fair Park Coliseum before Labor Day Monday - Friday 3PM - 6PM. After Labor Day the times will be Monday-Friday 12 Noon - 6PM and Saturdays 10AM - 4PM.
The last day to purchase a Mega Pass will be Saturday, September 19th from 10AM - 6PM. They will not be available after that day!
The Mega Pass is a pay-one-price picture ID that is good for a wristband for unlimited rides each day of the carnival operation: September 24th - October 3rd.
