SPECIAL RULES
**Any article which starts to mold or deteriorate may be removed from the display case
at the discretion of the Superintendents.

  1. ENTRY TIMES — All Canned Goods (Divisions 78, 79, and 80) — Tuesday, September 21, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Wednesday, September 22, 9 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Breads, Cakes, Cookies, and Candy (Divisions 70-77) — Thursday, September 23, 9 a.m. - 12 Noon ONLY.
  2. Read carefully the Rules and Regulations of the Women’s Department.
  3. All professionals are barred from competing for premiums in this department. A professional is one who makes and sells food as a trade.
  4. Self-sticking labels may be used on entry forms.
  5. See General Rules 12 and 13 under Women’s Department General Rules for time of redeeming exhibits.
  6. Bread, Cake, Cookies and Candy not claimed on pick-up day will be discarded except Division 77 Calss 7700. Any article which starts to mold or deteriorate may be removed from the display case
  7. All baked goods must be placed on cardboard circles which are available at the Fair Office, 1012 Ave A or the Culinary Department in the Women's Building beginning September 21. (Cricles largers than 16" in diameter must be furnished by exhibitor). Cakes must be placed on rounds which are 4" larger in diameter than the cake, EXCEPT sheet cakes (Division 72-73, & 74 only) which must be placed on boards 2" larger than the cake. Cardboard, plexiglass, plyboard, masonite, metal, or plastic cake boards 3/4" or less in thickness may be used.
  8. Jars for canned goods must be clean. Only standard canning jars are acceptable, except where decorative, half pints, or specialty jars are specified. MAYONNAISE AND OTHER JARS ARE UNACCEPTABLE. All jars must be sealed and have rings which are not rusty. All jars are to be filled appropriately with product.
  9. All canned products must be canned in current year and prepared by the exhibitor.
  10. Do not label jars or lids.
  11. No fresh fruit on icing. NO CANNED FROSTING.

DIVISION 70 — BREAD
All loaves must be baked in standard 1 lb. loaf pans.
No mixes accepted. Whole Breads will be entered.

No cake mixes may be used except where specified. A layer cake is two or more layers.

DIVISION 72 —DECORATED CAKES
Youth may enter in categories 72-73. Competition in Division 72 and 73 is limited to
amateurs who have NEVER sold a decorated cake. Footed cake rounds and cake dummies are NOT acceptable.
Judging for PRESENTATION ONLY.

Cakes may be made in mold or layer pans. Wedding cakes, sugar art work, decorated cookies, gingerbread houses
and chocolate items may be no larger than 14" in diameter. Cakes may be no taller than 24".

Jellies must be exhibited in standard or decorated glasses, half pint or pint jars. Paraffin will be accepted.
Glasses must have lids. All entries in this Division must be made from fresh fruit & juices. No mayonnaise jars will be accepted.


FRUIT PRESERVE is a product consisting of whole small fruits or pieces of larger fruits cooked in syrup until clear and
somewhat translucent and stored in the thick syrup or jellied juice.

MARMALADE is a jellied fruit product which holds suspended within it all or part of the fruit pulp and the sliced peel.


JAMS are made from crushed fruits cooked with sugar until mixture is more or less homogeneous and thick.

CONSERVES are a jam-like product made of two or more fruits which contains either nuts or raisins or both.

2009 Mega Pass

Mega Pass is Back

The Mega Pass will be $60 again this year. Sales begin Monday, August 3rd at 3PM! They will be available for purchase at the Fair Park Coliseum before Labor Day Monday - Friday 3PM - 6PM. After Labor Day the times will be Monday-Friday 12 Noon - 6PM and Saturdays 10AM - 4PM.

The last day to purchase a Mega Pass will be Saturday, September 19th from 10AM - 6PM. They will not be available after that day!

The Mega Pass is a pay-one-price picture ID that is good for a wristband for unlimited rides each day of the carnival operation: September 24th - October 3rd.

**Pony rides and other specialty rides may be exempted.**
